723 Open Space is a nonprofit creative venue operated by Artstillery. The space hosts immersive arts experiences, exhibitions, performances, community gatherings, workshops, and private rentals.
We are seeking a dependable, community-minded Venue Operations Manager to become the operational steward of 723 Open Space.
This position combines hands-on event management with ongoing administrative and leadership responsibilities as part of the Artstillery team.
This position replaces the previous venue operations role and includes expanded responsibilities to ensure 723 Open Space is consistently managed with clear accountability, professional event oversight, administrative follow-through, and care for the building.
The ideal candidate enjoys hospitality, arts administration, event management, and creating welcoming spaces for artists and audiences.

Position Summary
The Venue Operations & Event Manager is the responsible onsite authority during community rentals and public events at 723 Open Space.
This individual serves as Artstillery's representative to renters, audiences, artists, and community members while ensuring the venue operates safely, professionally, and according to all policies and procedures.
The Venue Operations & Event Manager is entrusted with the day-to-day stewardship of the space and is expected to maintain a high level of communication, organization, and accountability.
Responsibilities
Venue Operations
- Serve as the onsite responsible party during community rentals and public events.
- Act as Artstillery's point of contact and final voice of authority while events are in progress.
- Open and close the venue, including:
- Unlocking and locking doors
- Setting and disarming alarms
- Securing the building after events
- Serve as a responsible key holder and steward of the space.
- Ensure patrons follow venue policies, including parking regulations and safety procedures.
- Add upcoming events to LED screen programming (training will be provided).
- Turn on exterior parking lights for evening events.
- Maintain familiarity with all operating procedures including:
- Opening and closing procedures
- Fire exits and emergency protocols
- Building policies
- Rental procedures
Event & Client Management
- Welcome and support renters, artists, and guests during events.
- Serve as the primary onsite representative of 723 Open Space during rentals and public programming.
- Walk clients through the Cleaning & Checkout Checklist after rentals.
- Complete a post-rental inspection of the venue to verify cleanliness, building condition, and compliance with venue policies.
- Document and communicate the results of the Cleaning & Checkout Checklist and post-rental inspection to the Event Bookings Manager, who will determine security deposit returns.
- Notify the Event Bookings Manager & Board Vice-President of any damages, missing items, excessive cleaning needs, or violations of venue policies immediately following the event.
- Deliver pre-show or post-show announcements using scripts provided by Artstillery leadership and lead patrons to donations and survey QR codes in space.
- Complete the COP report before leaving the building after each event.
- Communicate with the Event Bookings Manager regarding upcoming events, client needs, and post-event follow-up.
- Schedule events into the Artstillery calendar.
Bar & Concessions
- Obtain and maintain an active TABC Certification before the first event.
- Operate the donations bar and concessions during public events.
- Run the Square point-of-sale system.
- Maintain a welcoming and professional concessions environment.
- Lock and secure:
- Bar taps
- Coolers
- Beverage storage
- Point-of-sale equipment
- Monitor inventory and communicate shortages of:
- Beverages
- Kegs
- Toiletries
- Cleaning supplies
- Concessions
Technology
Become knowledgeable in the venue's in-house technology and be able to:
- Turn on venue technology for clients.
- Operate basic sound and projection systems.
- Troubleshoot minor technical issues.
- Stay up to date with equipment and operational changes.
Venue Care & Maintenance
- Attend at least one scheduled cleaning session each month.
- Ensure the venue remains clean, organized, and welcoming.
- Update signage when events change or materials expire.
- During Basic Package rentals or periods without a public audience:
- Organize the space
- Conduct inventory counts
- Prepare the venue for upcoming events
- Tidy storage areas
- Assist with venue upkeep and presentation
Team Leadership & Administration
- Participate as a member of the Artstillery leadership team.
- Attend the weekly Artstillery team meeting every Sunday from 10:00 AM – 11:30 AM.
- Coordinate with the Event Bookings Manager and Artstillery leadership on:
- Upcoming events
- Venue needs
- Inventory
- Maintenance issues
- Event follow-up
- Schedule Front of House staff when unavailable to personally cover an event.
- Communicate proactively and professionally with team members.
- Maintain accurate timesheets and event documentation.
Qualifications

Compensation
Public-Facing Events & Bar Service
$20/hour
This rate applies to:
- Public performances
- Community events
- Gallery openings
- Bar and concessions service
- Front of House responsibilities
- Audience-facing programming
Basic Package & Non-Public Venue Hours
$15/hour
This rate applies to:
- Non-public rentals
- Basic Package rentals
- Venue organization
- Inventory and restocking
- Cleaning oversight
- Administrative venue hours
- General venue upkeep
Monthly Administrative Stipend
$166/month
This stipend compensates for:
- Participation in the weekly Artstillery team meeting every Sunday from 10:00 AM – 11:30 AM
- Administrative coordination related to upcoming events
- Calendar management
- Volunteer/Support Staff scheduling
- Leadership communications
- General administrative responsibilities outside of event hours
- Upkeep of 723 Open Space signage
Payment Terms
- Partner organizations may compensate directly on a per-event basis when applicable.
- Artstillery compensates monthly.
- Report honestly and accurately worked hours to the Board Vice-President.
- Payment is issued by the 5th of each month for all hours worked in the previous month.
- Hours are verified using submitted timesheets.
- The monthly administrative stipend is paid alongside monthly payroll.
Expected Schedule
This position primarily requires availability during evenings and weekends, with varying hours based on venue rentals and public programming.
Additionally, the Venue Operations & Event Manager is expected to participate in the weekly Artstillery team meeting held every Sunday from 10:00 AM – 11:30 AM.
